Now that the rest of our classmates had pitched their ideas to us for their Opening Sequence to their film, it was now time that Alex and I pitched our idea to the others who will also then give us feedback on our idea for what we could possibly change.
Title: "ANONYMOUS"
Roles:
- Filming: Alex Muir
- Editing: Robert Johnstone
- Sound: Alex and Robert
- Mise-en-Scene: Alex and Robert
Actors:
- Robert Johnstone: Interviewer
- James McCullin: Interviewee/Anonymous character
- Alex Muir: Civilian who gets assaulted
Our Pitch:
- Our Film Opening Sequence was going to be based on an Action/Adventure genre as this was a genre which we both felt the most comfortable in due to our love for watching these type of films.
- This drive we have for creating our own Action/Adventure Film Opening will allow us also to generate further and better ideas about our film opening which will hopefully give us the most marks that we need as possible.
- In our pitch, we explained to the class that our film opening was going to begin with an interview about an anonymous/unknown agent that has been seen out of duty that may be a danger/outsider to the force.
- This anonymous person escapes by violence and lifts the table up at the interviewer and injures him whilst escaping promptly and assault another co-worker nearby. Having escaped the building he will then free-run out of the area and dives into a car window that is the getaway car or dives off a bridge into the water (in slow motion).
Note: This is a short video of us giving out our pitch to the class. Alex goes slightly off track and mentions about the interviewee "not handing over the drugs the interviewer was asking for". THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE PITCH!
Feedback from Pitch:
Positives:
- Our classmates were really interested in our pitch idea and were intrigued by the idea of the violence and the height of the drama which will occur as the anonymous character flips the table out in aggression.
- They were also very excited about the whole plot as there is an enigma due to the nonrecognition of our anonymous character.
To improve:
- Because of Alex's and my huge attention to detail, they felt that our Opening Sequence would take too long to film and would last for more than 3 minutes long which its not supposed to be.
- They were suggesting as well that the anonymous character should be act a little more "ruder" and "cheeky" towards the interviewer to build the tension up between the two even more.
- Our biggest criticism we got however was our choice of actor for the interviewer. The interviewer in an Action/Adventure film would be played by someone who is more threatening towards the interviewee whereas I was seen as not a threatening person to be able to act as an interviewer for the interviewee. This would otherwise be very ironic and challenging the stereotypes of threatening people which is what we do not want!
- The audience also said to make the free running as effective as possible with impressive flips etc. So this is why we are getting Alex's cousin 'James McCullin' to play the anonymous character in our film opening as he is able to do these types of free running moves.
An example of James back flipping off a rail:
What we have learned:
To make the violence look as realistic as possible
Don't get too detailed/complicated with story-line, try to be simple but effective.
If you fail to plan .... you plan to fail!
