Feedback from Target Audience

Having completed a successful draft of Alex's and my Opening Sequence to a Film, we were wanting some audience feedback for our Opening Sequence so that they could give us their opinions on what were the positives of our film and what aspects we could improve on to make our Opening Sequence a whole lot better. For our intended audience we got some year 13 Media Studies students to view our work.

Positives

  • Slow-Motion: Everyone who had watched our Opening sequence Rough Cut really enjoyed the use of the Slow-Motion we had included of James jumping over the bonnet of a car. They said it worked effectively and was very well shot.
  • Lighting: The use of the High Key Lighting in the free-running sequence and the Low Key Lighting in the interview sequence were both well treated. They particularly liked the Low Key Lighting in the Interview scene because this was very effective at tracing out the silhouettes and shadows of our two actors.
  • Fight Scenes: The majority really enjoyed the fight-scene as this was well choreographed which made the scene a whole lot more realistic. In addition, they thought the sound effects we had collected for the punches and slams synced in smoothly with the film and added a little more tension and suspense to the sequence.
  • Actors: Everyone believed that the actors we had chosen had acted excellently for our film and suited the characters we had chosen them for, despite the two actors knowing each other very well which would have made it harder for them both to act at their normal standards.
A member in our audience even said that they wanted to "watch the rest of the film" because the opening sequence was so convincing!

Negatives

  • Sound: Some of our audience members wanted us to check out our audio levels because the speech audio we had recorded was fluctuating at times and was really disturbing to listen to because of the occasional radio signal noises we could here in the recording. The music levels were also a little too loud.
  • Car Scene: As our Opening Sequence is a little over 2:45 minutes, they suggested to us that we shorten the car sequence a little bit because there were some sections which they felt were not completely necessary to have, such as James running towards the car and James exciting out of the building
After having been given some audience feedback about what positives we could take from our Opening Sequence as well as what improvements we could make, we both went straight back into work to begin finishing our final Media Opening Sequence.
